Peace: The Ultimate Superpower

I had an road rager incident tonight, and it didn’t shake me. In the past, I would be completely shaken up, experiencing the situation over and over again my head and my body; ruminating over and over. But nope, I left completely unbothered. I felt powerful as I observed the car behind me experiencing uncontrollable anger for not even a full minute of slow moving traffic. Maybe she had a rough day, though I no longer play the game of excuses. What I realized is that as human beings, we have the innate choice of being controlled by outside factors on a sliding scale of accessibility. We have the power to protect our peace of mind, and that takes practice.

The feeling of being unbothered, and empowered in one’s own identity and choices is truly priceless. Accepting responsibility has been key for me. You have to invest in yourself, give weight to your feelings, and make choices that protect your most vulnerable state. Certain experiences showcase the work that we have done internally and this was one of those for me. I pulled over and allowed her to pass, as she screamed obscenities out of the window, I giggled a bit. I took a deep breath as I expressed gratitude for my peace of mind. My untouchable peace of mind. Not ALL the time is it untouchable, that would be denying my humanity, but it’s in a place that allows be to consciously aware and fully present as I make my way through the world.

As she sped past, I watched her tailgate another car and in that moment, a truth I’ve long clung to was validated-it’s not personal. It had nothing to do with me. Yes, maybe I pulled out when I shouldn’t have (Lol, she did run a stop sign) but at the end of the day, my peace is my peace. It’s not anybody else’s. As I mentioned earlier, in the past i would have let this wreck me. I would be feeling bad, regretful, upset and even a bit scared that this road roager would track me down and it would play out like a Stephen King novel. Not anymore. And the reason why was because I noticed.

I noticed how fragile I am, and I chose to do something about it. I chose to protect it. This choice took me on a journey, a journey that allows me to see the fruits of my labor and of my choices, both positive and negative. When you find true peace, even for a moment, life changes. That change will metamorphose and manifest into a bigger and bigger piece of your life. Day by day, that peace becomes more known in our lives. As time goes on, we become the peace we once sought. We become what consumes us. That can be a variety of emotions, and we get to make that decisions through the little moments of our lives and what we pursue with our time here on earth.

I am so grateful for the growth I have had in the past few years. For the boundaries I have set, and for the opportunity to see what these boundaries create in my life. When you are at peace, you win. When you are at peace, you are at peace, and nothing else matters.

Thanks for reading.
