Simple Solo Travel Tips

Solo travel is a love language for me. It is truly a time for zen and unexplainable freedom. Even if it’s just to a new coffee shop. It can feel very scary because it is. I am going to lay out a few tips, tricks, and ideas that can ease your mind and hopefully inspire you to take a leap, or approach your adventures with renewed consciousness.

  1. Set intentions and reflect on the WHY of your experience. This looks different every time. Maybe you want to travel to let something go, or find something new. Maybe you want to find inspirations. Maybe you just want to travel to travel. Traveling and stepping into a new environment can be a massive booster in an upleveling, even on the smallest level. Get the biggest bang for your buck by sitting with yourself before you take action.

  2. Make a plan: financially and literally. Sometimes you may want to be a free bird and simply go with the wind. Practicing to organize in a trip can be very uplifting and empowering. We spend lots of our lives plotting out payment timelines, appointments, etc. Use that skill for something you actually want to do and through it you create more of those experiences. I love to simply map out how much gas I will need, when and if I have to stop and where I would like to do so, and what I want to do on my adventure. It can be as simple as setting a budget for your new coffee shop outing. You can write, draw, talk to yourself, get the energy moving before you even take off.

  3. Research. Spend some time looking at restaurants, nature points, activites. Let this part surprise you. You don’t need to figure out every nitty-gritty detail, but you can definitely begin constructing some kind of idea of what you want your trip to look like and learn about where you will be spending your time. Make the trip work for you.

  4. Let someone know. It’s so important somewhere knows where you are going! I love alone time, and if you’re solo traveling, it’s a great opportunity to lean into that. With that being said, we cannot neglect our safety and connection with others. Share your location and Always be aware of your surroundings. Capture the moments with pictures or writing and share them with others.

  5. Make a goal. And make that goal fit your life and the visions you have for your self. This can truly be an opportunity to play.

  6. Enjoy the ride. Many times with traveling, things do not go exactly as expected, and the more you embrace that, the more you get to be a true rider on the storm. I always think of the quote “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans” from Beautiful Boy by John Lennon. To be honest, I still struggle with this at times and what’s okay. Sometimes minor inconveniences lead us exactly where we need to be and there’s usually a lesson wrapped up in there. God always has a greater plan for us, and we have to trust that.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post, and I hope it helps in some way, shape or form. Remember to embrace the unknown and find the magic in the mundane. Happy Travels my friend!
