The Lessons of Travel

This is going to be a mind dump of ALLL the lessons (or at least all the lessons that come to me now) that one can learn on the road. Traveling cross country is something every being should experience, especially if you live in America. I acknowledge that not everyone has this privilege, so What a blessing it is.

We tend to get comfortable in what I like to call our bubble. Our corner of the world where we have perceived control, comfortability, groundedness. There is nothing wrong with this, it’s actually quite beautiful. Having an intimate relationship with the land, neighbors, knowing the roads like the back of our hands. By no means does travel require us to abandon this bubble, rather it encourages us to explore outside of it. For when we do, we inevitably return to our bubble with wisdom, deeper understanding, and a vast appreciation for the place we call home.

The lessons. Let’s do a list aye? I have decided to cap at 10, for I want to make more lists in the future.

  1. Your problems aren’t so big after all. There are so many problems - when we leave our comfort zone we get to see that we are suffocated by something that is an inevitable part of life.

  2. It’s not about you. It’s so much bigger than “us.”

  3. The unifying field of life takes on endless different forms, yet remains consistent in its undertone. Everyone does the same thing in different ways, and that’s beautiful. We are all humans.

  4. You are special because there is no one exactly like you. Thinking your thoughts, having your experiences.

  5. Making things happen is a lot easier than you may believe. Change is always good and it is always accessible. You could wake up one day and make the choice to be in a completely different place.

  6. Anything is possible. There are truly so many possibility and your choices different impact your path, even in the smallest ways.

  7. Looks are deceiving. What looks old, sketchy, run down on the outside is actually warm, joyful, and loving on the inside. (yes, I am talking about roadside gas stations.)

  8. Go. Go Go Go Go Go. Do it. You know how much you have of every other resource besides time.

  9. Kindness is timeless and always welcome. You can leave a lasting impact in the tiny moments. In the places you are only but passing through.

  10. Intuition never ever lies. It is our ever-present 24/7 built-in security system. The guidance we need is implanted within. Trust that inner-source. Taking ourselves out of the comfortable strengthens our connection, I do believe. When it feels right from the INNER, it is right on the OUTER.

If you have the opportunity to travel, take it. Travel does not mean to Europe or to some exotic place, it can mean an hour drive to a new town you’ve never been. It could mean a day trip to visit a relative you haven’t seen. I promise you, when you return, you are a new, expanded version of you. It’s the magic in the mundane my love.
